A new chapter for Good Mushroom. Our retail marketplace is taking shape.

Meet the mushroom.

A short starting point for understanding species, product forms and the information on a pack.

Lion’s Mane

Hericium erinaceus is recognised by its hanging, tooth-like structures. Retail products may contain whole fruiting body, powder, extract or a blend. Check the exact ingredient and form rather than treating these products as equivalents.

Cordyceps

Cordyceps militaris appears in dried fruiting-body packs, powders, extracts and blends. A species name alone does not identify the product grade, serving size or measured constituents. Look for the actual label and the evidence relevant to that product.

Reishi

Reishi products are associated with Ganoderma species. Check the species declaration, part used and whether the contents are a powder, extract or combination.

Shiitake

Lentinula edodes is found in culinary mushroom products as well as powders, extracts and blends. Preparation, ingredients and intended use should be clear on the individual product.

Whole, powder or extract?

A whole dried mushroom keeps its physical form. A powder may simply be a ground ingredient. An extract is produced through an extraction process and may include additional ingredients. Extraction ratios, marker results and serving sizes are different measures; one should not be used as a substitute for another.

Start with the label.

  • What species and part of the mushroom are used?
  • Is it whole, powdered or extracted?
  • What other ingredients or carriers are included?
  • What are the net quantity and the labelled serving?
  • Who manufactures, packs and sells it?
  • What are the storage directions, date markings and warnings?

A blend deserves a closer look.

A mushroom coffee or other blend contains more than its headline ingredient. Check the full ingredient list, any declared amounts, allergens and preparation directions.

This guide explains product terminology. Follow each product’s label and seek appropriate professional advice for questions about your health, medicines or suitability.
